When your child reaches their toddler years, many parents choose to sign them up for preschool or child care. This way, they can begin to develop social skills, start to learn, and parents can go to work without worrying about their children. But one big issue that some parents run into is whether they should enroll their child in preschool or daycare. Is there even a difference?
Yellow Brick Road Early Childhood Development Center in Plymouth, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, and Eden Prairie is a preschool more than it is a daycare or child care. We use a curriculum that is called Teaching Strategies GOLD®. In this blog, we are going to talk about what that means and why that distinguishes us as a preschool.
What Is Teaching Strategies GOLD?
Teaching Strategies GOLD is one of the most widely accepted curriculums in the industry. This curriculum focuses on a child’s development from the time they are born to the time they turn six years old. GOLD allows teachers to follow a curriculum that will suggest different activities and learning objectives that can help each individual student while focusing on the class as a whole. This is a wonderful curriculum for helping every student develop at their own pace, focus on the individual child, while also working with the entire class.
Why We Use Teaching Strategies GOLD
This is a great curriculum that allows us to help children with their development in a number of different areas and allows our teachers the freedom to create lesson plans that benefit everyone. We use this curriculum because it goes over all of the domains of learning.
These include:
- Social-emotional skills
- Physical skills
- Cognitive skills
- Mathematics
- Language
- Literacy
- Science
Our teachers at Yellow Brick Road use the GOLD curriculum to create their lesson plans to help your kiddos begin to grow new skills in these areas. We also use this curriculum to assess each child and where they are developmentally. We know that each child is different and we want to help them learn and grow at their own pace.
As our teachers are assessing each child and creating lesson plans that cater to both the individual child as well as the entire class, they are also doing observations of the children. This allows our teachers to be able to show parents where their children are at, show them videos of their children working on different projects, and help parents know what to work on with their kiddos. Teachers will be able to discuss with parents what the goals are for their students and how teachers and parents can work together to help the students reach those goals.
What Makes Us a Preschool
Along with using Teaching Strategies GOLD, there is one more major factor that makes us a preschool rather than a daycare. Many people believe that preschool is for children that are from two and a half years old to five years old. But at Yellow Brick Road, we believe that the first five years of life are the most important when it comes to development and your child’s learning. We don’t wait until our students are two and a half to start working on their development and creating lesson plans and learning objectives.
From the time your child enters our preschool, they will begin to learn and work on different areas of development. We give parents a better idea of where their children should be and what milestones they should be hitting. Our teachers work hard to help every student in every program begin to work on their development and hit those milestones.
When you enroll your children at Yellow Brick Road Early Childhood Development Center, they are getting more than just care, they are getting an education that will help them thrive throughout the rest of their lives.
This is what makes our child care center different: it is not just a child care center. It is a preschool that focuses on your child’s individual development to help them grow, learn, and develop new skills.
