As the weather (hopefully) begins to get warmer, it will be time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine with your children! We can’t wait for spring and we are sure your children feel the same way. They want to be able to play outside without worrying about bundling up in coats, snow pants, boots, mittens, scarves, and hats. And we are sure you want to be able to sit on your porch, basking in the sunlight.
We hope as much as you do that this will all be possible soon! But until then, you still need to figure out fun activities that you can do with your children inside while drinking some hot cocoa. By now, you know that we love crafts at Yellow Brick Road Early Childhood Development Center. We think they are a great way to teach children many different skills and work on their development!
So, as you and the kiddos wait for it to become flip flop weather, you can help them with these fun springtime crafts! Keep reading for ideas of simple and fun crafts your little ones can enjoy with you!
Egg Carton Caterpillars
This is a fun, easy, and cute craft that your children will love! You can either base these caterpillars off of the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or you could just allow your kiddos to paint their caterpillars whatever color they want.
What you’ll need:
- Old egg carton
- Paint
- Googly eyes
- Colorful pipe cleaners
Take an old egg carton and cut out their “caterpillar.” Cut the egg carton so there are five sections (where the egg is held). Turn these sections of carton over so that the bumps are on the top. On one of the end section, poke two holes at the top, side by side. Have your kiddo paint each section a different color so their caterpillar is colorful. Once that is dry, place the googly eyes on the front, under the punctured holes. Cut some of the pipe cleaners about two inches long and stick them through the holes to give the caterpillar antennae. This is a quick craft that is fun for kids of all ages!
Paper Plate Flower

Colorful Flower Pots
We like simple crafts here, this one is super simple and actually useful! If you are a gardener and love planting your spring flowers, this is a great craft! Get clay flower pots that are plain, which is the red clay color. Then get acrylic paint and allow your children to paint them however they want, once they are done painting you can have them help you plant flower seeds or flowers that need to be potted. They will love seeing their flowers grow throughout the spring in pots that they decorated themselves!
Those are a few of the many spring crafts you can do with your kids while waiting for the weather to warm up! Next time we will go over some other spring and summer crafts, as well as fun activities that you can do with your kiddos during hot summer days! Schedule a tour at Yellow Brick Road today!
