Childcare in Waukee, IA

Introducing a new choice for Waukee families!

Two ways to learn, one caring Waukee community.

Beginning Fall 2026, preschool families can choose between an authentic Montessori classroom and a Reggio inspired Yellow Brick Road classroom, both for ages 3 to 6. Our goal is to provide families the opportunity to choose the track that best fits how their child learns, both within a rich environment where curiosity, confidence, and lifelong learning naturally unfold.

Both tracks are taught by caring, skilled educators and share the same commitment to your child’s wellbeing and development. There is no lesser option, only the one that is right for your child.

Two Ways to Learn, One Caring Community

We are bringing together the best of two proven approaches in early childhood education. The result is something rare: authentic Montessori and a rich, Reggio-inspired play-based program under one roof, so you can choose the path that fits your child.  Both tracks are taught by caring, skilled educators and share the same commitment to your child’s wellbeing and development.  There is no “lesser” option, only the one that’s right for your child.

Approach

Individualized Montessori

Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum

How the curriculum is shaped

A prepared, sequential curriculum. Educators observe readiness and guide children through well-defined materials and lessons at their own pace.

An emergent curriculum. Educators notice what fascinates the children and build projects and investigations around it.

The educator’s role

A skilled guide who observes closely, offers individual lessons, then steps back so the child can practice and master independently.

A collaborative partner and co-learner who asks questions, offers provocations, and guides each child’s inquiry deeper.

Materials and environment

Self-correcting Montessori materials arranged in sequence on open, orderly shelves within a carefully prepared environment foster independence, concentration, hands-on exploration, and self-directed learning while supporting each child’s natural development.

Open-ended materials, natural elements, art media, and learning centers that invite many forms of expression.

Daily rhythm

A two to three hour uninterrupted morning work cycle, followed by a peaceful daily rhythm.

A flexible daily rhythm balancing child-led exploration, small-group projects, collaboration, and play.

How learning progresses

Step by step toward mastery, following the built-in sequence of the materials.

In depth, through extended investigations that explore a topic from many angles.

Social learning

Multi-age classrooms where children often work individually and learn naturally from older and younger peers.

Collaborative by design, with group projects and shared inquiry at the heart of the day.

Play and imagination

Purposeful hands-on work is central. Play and imagination are especially embraced in the youngest years.

Play and imagination are central throughout, treated as a primary way children make sense of their world.

How progress is shared

Educators track each child’s lessons and mastery through ongoing observation and record-keeping.

Educators document children’s thinking through notes, photos, and displays that make learning visible.

Infants & Toddlers:
A Blended Foundation

Our youngest learners enjoy the best of both worlds. The Montessori materials and practical-life activities that build focus, coordination, and independence remain the heart of the classroom, enriched with open-ended, child-led, play-based exploration that invites curiosity, creativity, and discovery.
