Choosing the Right Child Care Center

Every child deserves a safe place to learn.

As a parent, you want the best for your children. But what is the best? That has always been a tough question for parents to answer, and parents rarely agree. Even if you think that being a stay-at-home parent is the best option, it is not always doable. No matter what the reason may be, sometimes you have no choice other than to find a child care center for your child to attend while you head to work.

We know that dropping your child off with strangers can be difficult, but knowing that you are dropping them off with a caring, encouraging, and nurturing staff can make it easier.

At Yellow Brick Road Early Childhood Development Center, we work hard to create a space where your children will feel safe, develop a love for learning, and begin to build a foundation for their future in academics. We focus our attentions on the children, making sure they are developing and growing throughout our different child care programs.

Tips for Choosing a Child Care Center

Finding the right child care center shouldn’t be difficult, but it is an important decision. You want to find the best child care center for your children. Doing so will allow you to relax and get through the work day without worrying, as well as allow your children to learn and grow in a safe and caring environment. Finding the right child care center is important, for you and your child. But how are you supposed to choose the right child care center? There are a few things to consider. As you go through the process, use these tips to help you find the right child care center.

Schedule a Visit

Before you even consider one child care center, you will want to schedule a visit. Visiting different daycares will allow you to get a better sense of the overall conditions, the environment, the staff, and what goes on in the center. You can schedule a visit at one of our Yellow Brick Road locations now! We would be happy to show you and your child around our child care centers.

What to Look For

During your visit, you will want to keep an eye out and take in the surroundings. Simply walking through a child care center can help you determine whether or not it is right for your child. Here are a few things to look for during your visit:

Good Learning Environment

The environment of the child care center is important. It should be stimulating, comforting, safe, and fun. Make sure it seems childish. There should be areas that children can play in freely, different educational material around the classroom, and stimulating colors without being overwhelming.

Child-Sized and Age Appropriate

While this may seem like something you shouldn’t have to check for, you will want to make sure that the classrooms are equipped with child-sized and age appropriate furniture and items. Tables and chairs should be small enough for children to use comfortably. There should be noticable differences between the infant room and the preschooler room, as well as toys and academic items that are appropriate for the age and what the children should be learning.

Caring Staff

As you tour a child care center, you should be able to notice how the staff is acting and treating the children. Are they sitting on the floor playing with children? Are they at the child’s level helping them with a project? What is the teacher-child ratio like? Are they talking to the children sweetly? Pay attentions to what the teachers are doing and how they are speaking to children, especially children that may be misbehaving. This is a good indicator of how they will treat your child.

Overall Appearance

While focusing on the style of the classrooms and furniture, how the staff treats children, and the class environment are important, take a look at the overall appearance of the daycare. Look at the cleanliness, if there are any safety concerns, and whether or not you like the look of a place. If your gut reaction is to avoid a child care center, you likely don’t want to bring your child there!

Now that you know what to look for when choosing a child care center, hopefully you have more confidence in finding the right place for your child.
